Heavy Rain and Snowmelt Cause Ice Damage in Northeastern Michigan
In northeastern Michigan, particularly around Black Lake, heavy rainfall combined with snowmelt has led to significant flooding and ice damage. Large ice chunks have been propelled into homes, breaking windows and doors, as water levels rise due to the spring thaw. The Cheboygan County area, including Black Lake, Black River, and other waterways, has experienced severe overflow, submerging docks, roads, and properties. The situation has been exacerbated by the wind pushing ice ashore, causing further destruction. State and county officials are actively working to manage the debris and ice to prevent blockages at the Cheboygan Lock and Dam Complex, which is crucial for water flow to Lake Huron.
