I-65 Reopens to Louisville Traffic Ahead of Schedule, Easing Commuter Disruptions
Interstate 65 in Louisville, Kentucky, has reopened to traffic three days ahead of schedule after nearly two months of construction closures. The reopening is part of the $150 million Interstate 65 Central Corridor Project, which aims to replace several aging overpass bridges along the interstate. Governor Andy Beshear and officials from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced the reopening, which includes two lanes in both directions between Jefferson Street and Interstate 264. Although the lanes have reopened, the project is not yet complete, with work expected to continue until mid-2027. Several ramps have also reopened, including access from I-65 North to the Fair/Expo Center and Interstate 264 East to the Fair/Expo Center Main Gate. However, some ramp closures remain in effect, and the area is still an active construction zone with a reduced speed limit of 40 mph.
