Lancaster County Election Commission Rejects Majority of Signatures for Lincoln Election Petitions
The Lancaster County Election Commission has rejected over 65% of the signatures on three petitions from the conservative group Good Government Lincoln, which aimed to reshape Lincoln's election processes. The group, led by former state Sen. Tony Fulton, sought to amend the city charter to align city election dates with statewide elections, expand voting rights to certain residents near city limits, and impose term limits on city council members. Despite gathering over 30,100 signatures, the group failed to meet the required 4,981 valid signatures per petition. The group plans to restart the signature-gathering process, alleging potential underhanded opposition activities. Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird has been a vocal critic of the petitions, labeling them as partisan attacks.
