Horseheads Man Charged with Grand Larceny for Allegedly Abandoning Construction Project
William Groff, a 48-year-old resident of Horseheads, New York, has been charged with third-degree grand larceny. The charges stem from an incident in December where Groff was hired for a construction project at a Big Flats home, valued at $43,000. The homeowner reportedly paid Groff an upfront cash sum of $15,000. According to New York State Police, Groff performed approximately two hours of work before abandoning the job after the homeowner expressed concerns about the quality of the work. Despite multiple attempts by the homeowner to contact Groff to either complete the project or return the money, he allegedly did not respond. Groff was arrested on August 13 in Seneca County on a warrant, subsequently arraigned, and released.
