Austria Takes S3 Chairmanship, Aims to Accelerate Western Balkan EU Integration
Austria has assumed the rotating chairmanship of the Slavkov-3 (S3) format, focusing on accelerating the EU integration of Western Balkan states. At a high-level diplomatic meeting in Vienna, Austria, along with the Czech Republic and Slovakia, adopted a work program for 2026-2027. The program addresses European affairs, EU enlargement, energy security, transportation, and digitalization. Austria is recognized as a driving force in bringing the Western Balkans closer to the EU, with a particular focus on concluding Montenegro's accession negotiations by the end of 2026. The initiative also aims to strengthen cultural and social ties within Central Europe.
