Senator Susan Collins, a Republican from Maine, has garnered significant attention on social media for her indirect comments regarding her Democratic opponent, Troy Jackson. When asked by a Politico reporter about whether Jackson's personal life, specifically reports that he fathered two children with his second cousin, would be a campaign issue, Collins stated, "Well, I'm not going to bring up the fact that the mother of his two children is his second cousin. I don’t know whether people know that or not." This response, which effectively brought the issue to light while disclaiming intent, was widely shared and praised by conservatives as politically savvy. Jackson's personal life has been under scrutiny, including a 1988 police report alleging assault at a bar and accusations of pushing his partner, which he denies. Jackson's campaign has dismissed the focus on his personal life as a distraction from policy issues, accusing Collins of attempting to divert attention from her voting record.
