Wildfire Smoke to Impact Air Quality Across Northern and Southern U.S.
Smoke from over 51 large wildfires in Oregon and Washington, along with additional fires in British Columbia, is spreading across the United States. As of July 27, 2026, at 10 a.m. PT, areas in eastern Oregon are experiencing 'very unhealthy' air quality levels, with parts of Washington and Idaho also affected. The smoke is forecast to travel thousands of miles, impacting states in the Midwest, South, and even Florida. While the smoke is not as severe as earlier events this month, it still poses significant health risks, particularly for sensitive groups. The fires have burned over 1.5 million acres of wildland in the Pacific Northwest, exacerbated by prolonged heat waves and dry conditions.
