Saudi Red Crescent's Hajj Medical Response Ensures Safety for Millions of Pilgrims
The Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) has successfully coordinated a large-scale medical response to support over 1.7 million pilgrims during the 2026 Hajj season in Saudi Arabia. The operation involved extensive preparation and logistics, with more than 730 ambulance vehicles and a network of paramedics, volunteers, and support staff positioned across key locations. The SRCA handled over 67,000 cases, averaging nearly 1,445 emergency calls daily. The response included ground and air medical services, with ambulance helicopters for critical cases. The SRCA also deployed motorcycles, electric scooters, and bicycles to navigate crowded areas. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) recognized SRCA's approach as an example of effective mass gathering management.
