Jared Moskowitz Defeats DSA Challenger Oliver Larkin in Florida Democratic Primary
Representative Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) has successfully fended off a challenge from democratic socialist Oliver Larkin in Florida’s 25th Congressional District Democratic primary. Moskowitz, a moderate Democrat, secured the victory in a district that has been redrawn to favor Republicans. Throughout his campaign, Moskowitz emphasized his bipartisan tendencies and his record of working with Republicans, including his previous role as director of emergency management for Republican Governor Ron DeSantis. He also took a firm stance against adding conditions on aid to Israel, a position that aligns with many voters in the South Florida district, which has a significant Jewish population. Larkin, endorsed by the national Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and prominent socialist influencer Hasan Piker, advocated for a bolder progressive agenda, including Medicare for All, abolishing prisons, and cutting aid to Israel, arguing that such policies are necessary for Democrats to win elections.
