Congresswoman Luz Rivas Introduces Methane Pollution Accountability Act Targeting Oil and Gas Operations
Congresswoman Luz Rivas has introduced the Methane Pollution Accountability Act, aimed at reducing methane emissions from oil and gas operations on federal lands and the Outer Continental Shelf. The bill mandates that operators pay royalties on methane lost through venting, flaring, or other negligent methods and requires them to submit plans to reduce pollution. The initiative is supported by several advocacy groups, including the American Lung Association and the Sierra Club, who believe it will help limit harmful emissions and protect public health. The bill has two original co-sponsors.
