Phoenix Police Respond to Suspect During Extreme Heat Emergency
On July 28, 2026, Phoenix police officers responded to a call about a man, Jesse Fred, suspected of vandalizing an apartment complex near 27th Avenue and Campbell Avenue. Fred was found sluggish, bleeding, and hiding in a bush. Officers attempted to communicate with him, but he did not respond. As Fred's condition worsened, officers moved him to the shade of a police SUV and awaited medical assistance. Firefighters arrived shortly after and discovered Fred's body temperature had reached a critical 107°F (41.7°C). Emergency responders initiated cold water treatment using ice-filled plastic bags. Despite their efforts, Fred was transported to the hospital, where he later passed away. The incident occurred during a period of extreme heat in Phoenix, highlighting the dangers of high temperatures.
