Grimes County Residents Demand Oversight on SpaceX's Terafab Factory Amid Tax Breaks
Residents of Grimes County, Texas, are calling for more stringent regulations on large infrastructure projects following the announcement of SpaceX's Terafab semiconductor factory. Nearly 900 residents signed a petition presented to the County Commissioner Court, demanding local oversight, commitments for local hiring, and pollution controls. The petition was inspired by recent tax breaks granted to SpaceX, which agreed to pay the county $20 million annually, a significant reduction from its potential property tax obligations. The Terafab project, a joint venture with Tesla and Intel, aims to increase the global supply of semiconductor chips. Concerns have been raised about the project's impact on local power consumption, pollution, and the influx of construction workers.
