Trump Labor Department Rescinds Biden-Era Overtime Expansion Rule
The U.S. Labor Department under President Trump's administration has rescinded a 2024 rule that aimed to expand overtime eligibility for millions of workers. This rule, established during the Biden administration, sought to redefine which workers qualify as 'bona fide executive, administrative, or professional' staff, thus exempting them from overtime pay. It also proposed raising the exemption threshold to $58,656 for white-collar workers. However, the rule faced legal challenges and was vacated by two district court judges. The Labor Department has now reinstated the previous rule from the first Trump administration, bypassing the public comment period due to the court rulings.
