Trump Administration to Close Five U.S. Consulates in Cost-Saving Measure
The Trump administration has announced plans to close five smaller U.S. diplomatic missions in Africa, Asia, and the Western Hemisphere. The closures include the U.S. Embassy in Grenada, consulates in Nagoya, Japan, and Medan, Indonesia, the American Presence Post in Winnipeg, Canada, and an embassy branch office in Douala, Cameroon. These closures are part of a broader effort to streamline operations and save approximately $4.4 million annually. The decision comes as the administration plans to reopen embassies in Libya, Syria, and Venezuela, reflecting a shift in diplomatic priorities.
