Community Organizing as a Solution to Authoritarianism in the U.S.
A recent study by Sojourn Strategies, Ariel Research Partners, and Richard Shafranek highlights a significant portion of the U.S. electorate, approximately 35%, who are disaffected and exhibit low trust in government and politics. This group, characterized by high levels of disillusionment, is seen as crucial to the democratic revival of the country. The study suggests that fostering a sense of belonging and community through 'civic homes' can transform these individuals into active civic agents. Civic homes are spaces where people can connect, feel seen, and work together on issues that matter to them, thereby increasing their likelihood of participating in civic activities such as voting.
