Charleston Legal Access Expands Support for Hospitality Workers Amid Industry Challenges
Charleston Legal Access (CLA), a nonprofit law firm, is enhancing its efforts to provide legal services to hospitality workers in Charleston, South Carolina. As the hospitality industry continues to grow, accounting for 11.2% of local employment, workers face challenges such as housing instability and immigration issues. CLA, founded in 2016, offers legal assistance on a sliding scale to low- to moderate-income residents, addressing needs in immigration, housing, employment, and family law. The organization is particularly focused on helping immigrant workers, who are a significant part of the hospitality workforce, navigate legal complexities amid changing federal immigration policies. CLA collaborates with the College of Charleston's student-led PR agency to raise awareness of its services, including participation in community events like Second Sunday on King Street.
