Switzerland Pledges Millions for Ukrainian Grain Storage and Organic Sector Development

Switzerland has committed CHF 3 million (Swiss Francs) to support temporary grain storage in Ukraine under a Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) project. Additionally, Switzerland will allocate another CHF 6 million over the next three years to foster the development of Ukraine's organic agricultural sector. This announcement follows discussions between Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi and Jacques Gerber, the Swiss Federal Council Delegate for Ukraine. The primary focus of these discussions was the critical issue of logistics, as up to 30 million tonnes of agricultural products in Ukraine are at risk due to ongoing restrictions on maritime exports. Ukraine urgently needs to enhance its temporary crop storage capacity to prevent losses until stable export routes can be re-established. The FAO project is also expected to include voucher assistance for small farmers, with Ukraine proposing coordination through its State Agrarian Register to ensure targeted aid.
