Firefighters Battle Blaze Above Hunter Creek Trail, Trailhead Closed
Firefighters are actively combating a fire located west of southwest Reno above Hunter Creek Trail in the Mt. Rose Wilderness area. The fire, which has burned approximately 8 acres, is currently 10% contained. Due to the challenging terrain with no road access, four rappelers were deployed, supported by engines working through the night. Air support, including tankers and a helicopter, has been engaged since Saturday morning and will continue as conditions allow. The Michael D. Thompson Trailhead, also known as Hunter Falls, is closed until further notice, and the public is advised to avoid the area.
