Rep. Judy Chu Demands ICE Investigations Following Fatal Operations
Rep. Judy Chu, representing California's 28th Congressional District, has called for investigations into recent fatal incidents involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. Chu's demand follows the deaths of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Joan Sebastián Durán Guerrero during ICE enforcement actions. Araujo, a father of three U.S. citizens, was fatally shot in Houston, Texas, while not being the target of the operation. Similarly, Durán Guerrero, a Colombian national authorized to work in the U.S., was killed in Biddeford, Maine. Chu, along with nearly 200 other members of Congress, has signed a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and ICE Acting Director Venturella, seeking independent investigations into these deaths. Chu has criticized the administration for funding ICE operations that she claims terrorize immigrant communities.
