President Trump and Silicon Valley Leaders Sign Voluntary AI Safety Accord
President Trump, alongside CEOs from leading AI companies including Nvidia, Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta, xAI, Microsoft, and Google, signed a voluntary accord on AI safety. This agreement, known as the Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities, was announced on September 29 after a White House luncheon. The accord is described as morally, but not legally, binding. It outlines commitments for companies to implement robust internal controls for monitoring AI models, establish dedicated internal safety teams, partner with independent external auditors, and create board committees to oversee these efforts. The initiative aims to address growing concerns over AI safety and rogue AI agent incidents, such as recent breaches disclosed by OpenAI and Anthropic. The agreement also includes a commitment to establish incentives for communities hosting data centers and to develop technologies to minimize the environmental impact of infrastructure, heat dissipation, and water consumption.
