Baltimore City Joins Lawsuit Alleging TV Tower Caused Lead-Paint Contamination
Baltimore City has joined an ongoing lawsuit, accusing two companies, CBS Television Licenses LLC, Hearst Television Inc., and Scripps Broadcasting Holding LLC, of contaminating residential areas with lead paint chips and dust. The contamination allegedly occurred in 2022 after a television tower on 'TV Hill' above the Woodberry neighborhood was power-washed, or 'hydroblasted.' Residents reported finding red paint chips on their lawns, plants, and walkways, with the majority of these chips testing positive for lead by an environmental consultant. The amended lawsuit, led by the Murphy, Falcon & Murphy law firm, now includes the city as a plaintiff and seeks class representation for all residential and non-residential property owners within a 4,000-foot radius of the broadcasting tower, encompassing Baltimore’s historic Woodberry community.
