Georgia Department of Transportation Resumes I-285 Construction, Causing Major Traffic Delays
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has resumed the Interstate 285 construction project in Atlanta, Georgia, which was postponed last weekend. The project involves a full closure of I-285 between MLK Jr. Drive and Cascade Road, starting at 7 p.m. on Friday and ending at 5 a.m. Monday. This construction is part of a $370 million rebuild aimed at replacing deteriorating pavement and enhancing safety and ride conditions along the interstate. GDOT has warned of significant, region-wide delays during the closure period. To mitigate the impact on traffic, drivers are advised to use alternate routes such as I-85 by the airport to the downtown connector for north-bound travelers and I-75 south through northwest Atlanta to the downtown connector for south-bound travelers.
