Track Fire at NY Penn Station Causes LIRR Train Cancellations and Delays
A track fire at New York Penn Station has led to significant disruptions for Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) services. The fire, reported at approximately 11:22 a.m., prompted the response of 26 units and 84 firefighters and EMS personnel. By 1:30 p.m., the fire was extinguished, but it resulted in the cancellation or diversion of several LIRR trains to Grand Central Station. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has warned of expected delays, cancellations, and reroutes. To mitigate the impact, the subway system is cross-honoring LIRR tickets on several lines, including the E line and the 4, 5, 6, and 7 lines. Amtrak services have also been affected, with southbound traffic into New York temporarily halted.
