TriMet Implements Major Service Cuts and Green Line Shortening in Portland Amid Budget Deficit
TriMet, Portland's public transit agency, is enacting significant service changes, including adjustments to 33 bus lines and the MAX Green Line, to address a long-term budget deficit. These changes, effective Sunday, will result in new routes, schedules, and bus line names for many riders. Specifically, TriMet is cutting two low-ridership bus lines, 82-South Gresham and 153-Staffard/Salamo. Furthermore, the MAX Green Line will be shortened, operating only between the Clackamas Town Center and Gateway Transit Center. This modification will necessitate transfers for riders wishing to travel downtown, potentially adding approximately 15 minutes to their commutes. The agency attributes the $224 million budget deficit to factors such as decreased ridership and rising operational costs. TriMet encourages passengers to plan their trips online in advance to prepare for the upcoming alterations.
