John Dougherty, widely known as 'Johnny Doc' and the former business manager of IBEW Local 98, has been released from federal prison. His attorney, George Bochetto, confirmed the release to NBC10, stating that President Trump commuted Dougherty's sentence on Thursday, September 3. Dougherty had been serving a six-year federal prison sentence following multiple trials and convictions related to corruption and embezzlement. He began his sentence in October 2024, meaning he served approximately two years, with about four years remaining. The commutation shortens his sentence but does not erase his conviction. A White House spokesperson indicated that the commutation was granted to allow Dougherty to care for his gravely ill wife, whose father, previously her caregiver, recently passed away.
