West Michigan Trustworthy AI Consortium to Boost Regional AI Talent and Responsible Development
The West Michigan Trustworthy AI Consortium, led by Grand Valley State University's College of Computing, is actively working to advance the responsible development, adoption, and governance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the region. The consortium fosters collaboration among academia, industry, and community partners to address critical challenges in AI, including bias, privacy, cybersecurity, explainability, and accountability. A key focus of the consortium is workforce development, which involves creating upskilling and reskilling programs, stackable credentials, and executive education tailored to regional workforce demands and employer input. Additionally, the consortium aims to strengthen the region's AI talent pipeline from K-12 education through professional reskilling, ensuring that organizations can implement AI responsibly through governance frameworks and risk assessment aligned with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
