Los Angeles Police Department Conducts Massive Street Takeover Crackdown in Harbor Gateway
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) executed a large-scale operation, dubbed “Operation Street Sweeper,” in the Harbor Gateway area, targeting a massive street takeover. The operation, which began in the predawn hours of Saturday, involved over 150 officers who surrounded more than 700 individuals at the intersection of South Figueroa Street and West Alondra Boulevard. This coordinated effort resulted in 66 arrests for suspected participation in or aiding a street race or takeover, with three additional arrests for assaulting an officer, battery, and obstructing officers. Authorities issued 570 citations, including 442 to spectators of speed contests and 128 to juveniles for curfew violations. Approximately 200 vehicles were impounded, and seven firearms were seized. During the event, a portion of the scene devolved into a “demolition derby” as drivers attempted to evade arrest, colliding with other vehicles.
