Farmer Transitions from Government Job to Goat Farming, Achieves Self-Reliance
Bhovani Poudel, a resident of Bagar, Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-7 in Myagdi, has successfully transitioned from a government job to goat farming, achieving self-reliance. After working for over a decade as a contract helper at the Agriculture Development Office in Beni, Poudel decided to leave his position following the implementation of federalism. He established the Bagar Agriculture and Livestock Multipurpose Farm, starting with nine goats, which has now expanded to over 60. Poudel earns approximately Rs 5 lakh annually by selling 35 to 40 goats, which supports his family and covers educational expenses for his three children. In addition to goat farming, he also cultivates oranges and vegetables commercially. Poudel has planted 100 orange trees, with 40 already producing fruit, and has expanded his farm with an additional 100 saplings. He practices grazing-based goat farming and has implemented security measures, including raising dogs to protect the goats from wild animals.
