Danielle North Discusses Women, Power, and Scarcity in Leadership Roles
Danielle North, a Detroit entrepreneur, has been addressing the challenges women face in leadership roles, particularly the phenomenon where women in power sometimes fail to support other women. This issue is often attributed to scarcity, where limited opportunities lead to competition rather than collaboration. North has actively worked to counter this by establishing a childcare center, a college program for first-generation students, and a women's leadership network with 11,000 members. Her efforts come at a time when Michigan is seeing an unprecedented number of women in high-ranking positions, including a female governor, secretary of state, and attorney general. North's initiatives aim to ensure that women in power keep the door open for others, fostering a more inclusive environment.
