Chandigarh Introduces Self-Enumeration for Census 2027, Enhancing Citizen Participation
Chandigarh is set to implement a self-enumeration option for the upcoming Census 2027, starting April 16. This initiative allows residents to fill out their household details online through a dedicated portal, se.census.gov.in, which will be open for 15 days before traditional house-to-house enumeration begins. Upon submission, participants receive a unique Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID) to be used for validation during field visits by census officials. This marks the first time such a digital option is available in the national census, aiming to make the process more citizen-friendly. The portal supports English and 14 regional languages, broadening accessibility. The census will also employ a mobile-based app for data collection, ensuring real-time updates to the central server. Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav emphasized the importance of comprehensive training for enumerators to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
