Gary Redevelopment Commission Reviews Proposals for Genesis Center Revitalization
The Gary Redevelopment Commission is reviewing proposals for the redevelopment of the Genesis Convention Center. The city received six proposals following a request for proposals (RFP) issued in January 2026. The proposals include a variety of mixed-use concepts, such as sports, entertainment, housing, retail, and office spaces. The redevelopment aims to preserve the historical significance of the convention center while introducing flexible design elements to support arts, entertainment, commerce, and civic events. The city plans to demolish the existing convention center and parking garage due to structural concerns. The selection of a proposal is scheduled for April 22, 2026.
