Congressman Rudy Yakym Introduces HAILEY Act to Expand Amber Alert Criteria for High-Risk Missing Children
Indiana Republican Congressman Rudy Yakym introduced the High-risk Alert Improvement for Locating Endangered Youth Act, or HAILEY Act, in June. This legislation aims to broaden the circumstances under which law enforcement can issue an Amber Alert for missing children. Currently, federal guidelines generally require reasonable grounds to believe a child has been abducted and is in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death. The HAILEY Act would allow an Amber Alert to be issued for someone under 18 who is reasonably believed to be a high-risk missing person, even if an abduction cannot be immediately established.
