Detroit Children's Museum Reopens After 14-Year Closure with State Grant Support
The Detroit Children's Museum has reopened after being closed for 14 years due to a financial crisis within the school district. The reopening was made possible by a grant exceeding $800,000 from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. During its closure, the museum continued to support education by lending artifacts and STEM tools to teachers. Now, the museum boasts a collection of 2.5 million artifacts, including historical objects, science materials, and global treasures. The museum is open to the public for free every fourth Saturday of the month, and schools can schedule field trips to visit.
