Department of Defense Deploys Classified Space Data Repository for Enhanced Situational Awareness
The Department of Defense has entered into a $37 million contract with Bluestaq to deploy a classified version of a cloud-based data repository, known as the Unified Data Library (UDL), for space situational awareness. This initiative builds on previous work that began in late 2023, which involved a non-classified version of the UDL. The UDL, originally developed by Bluestaq for U.S. authorities, is designed to catalog and track the orbital paths of artificial objects such as satellites and debris. The system includes vast amounts of space data, such as launch notifications, track and positional data, and conjunction assessments. The classified version aims to enhance the Department's ability to manage space-based activities securely and effectively.
