New Jersey Lawmakers Demand Investigation into Delaney Hall Detainee Death
Governor Mikie Sherrill and New Jersey's congressional delegation are calling for an investigation into the death of Edwin Jovanny Lopez Cornejo, a detainee at Delaney Hall. Cornejo, who had diabetes and high blood pressure, reportedly did not receive necessary medication during his detention. The facility, operated by GEO Group under a contract with ICE, has been criticized for blocking state health inspectors from accessing critical areas. Lawmakers, including Senator Cory Booker and Representative Bonnie Watson Coleman, have renewed calls to close Delaney Hall, citing inhumane conditions and lack of accountability. They are demanding records from ICE regarding Cornejo's medical care and the circumstances of his death.
