Israel Defense Ministry Reports 170 Soldiers and 79 Civilians Killed in Past Year
Ahead of Memorial Day, the Israeli Defense Ministry and National Insurance Institute released updated figures on casualties and bereavement. Since October 7, 170 soldiers have been added to the list of fallen service members, alongside 54 disabled veterans who died due to their disabilities. Civilian casualties have also been significant, with 79 civilians killed in the past year, many during operations against Iran. The military bereavement circle now includes 59,583 family members, comprising parents, widows, orphans, siblings, fiancées, and guardians. The National Insurance data highlights the toll on civilians since the establishment of the Jewish community in 1851, with 5,313 civilian victims recorded. Since the state's establishment, 4,587 civilians have been killed, including 810 children and teenagers. The agency has provided financial assistance totaling over 1.5 billion shekels in the past three years, with grants of 599 million shekels distributed to victims of the October 7 attack.
