Meta Reverses Suspension of San Francisco Queer Bar's Instagram Page Amid Outcry
Meta Platforms, the company founded by Mark Zuckerberg, initially suspended the Instagram account of the Stud, a historic queer bar in San Francisco's SoMa district. The suspension was reportedly due to false claims of 'human trafficking' flagged by bad actors. This action threatened the bar's marketing efforts ahead of the Dore Alley street fair, a significant event for the local community. Following public outcry and criticism from state and local lawmakers, Meta restored the account, which has 32,000 followers. Co-owner Rachel Ryan expressed relief at the reversal and highlighted the need for Meta to improve its systems to prevent such incidents, which can empower fringe groups to harass LGBTQ+ businesses.
