Nonprofit Initiative Offers Financial Support to Workers Displaced by AI
A new program, co-led by the AI Commons Project and What We Will, is set to provide financial assistance to workers displaced by artificial intelligence. The initiative, known as the AI Dividend, will offer $1,000 per month for six to 12 months to eligible individuals. This support is accompanied by skill development resources, including reskilling and upskilling programs, AI training certifications, job coaching, and interview support. The program aims to address the immediate needs of workers affected by AI-driven job displacement, with an initial focus on 25 to 50 participants. The initiative is a response to growing concerns about job losses due to AI, as studies predict significant automation of jobs by 2030. The program is already distributing payments and aims to expand its reach to a larger pool of workers.
