Senator Warnock Calls for Statewide Moratorium on Georgia Data Centers Amid Transparency Concerns
U.S. Senator Raphael Warnock has called for a statewide moratorium on data centers in Georgia. This announcement was made during a press conference at Zion Lutheran Church in Guyton, following a meeting with residents and stakeholders regarding a proposed OpenAI data center in Rincon, Effingham County. Senator Warnock stated that such a moratorium could only be lifted for a specific project if developers guarantee no increases in water or electric utility bills for residents, no non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) or 'sweetheart tax giveaways' to developers, and no air or water pollution, including ambiguity around noise and light pollution.
