Mathematician Proposes New Theory to Resolve Cosmic Entropy Paradox
Professor Ginestra Bianconi from Queen Mary University of London has introduced a new theoretical framework called Gravity from Entropy (GfE) to address the longstanding cosmic entropy paradox. This paradox arises from the apparent contradiction between the second law of thermodynamics, which suggests that entropy, or disorder, should increase over time, and the observed increase in cosmic organization, such as the formation of galaxies and stars. Bianconi's theory posits that gravity emerges from the microscopic degrees of freedom within spacetime geometry, allowing for the coexistence of increasing total entropy and local organization. Her research, published in Physical Review D, suggests that while the universe's total entropy rises, the entropy per unit volume decreases, providing a potential explanation for the development of complex structures in the universe.
