Middle Schooler Wins NPR Student Podcast Challenge with Dyslexia Journey
Cora Walsh, a middle school student, has won the grand prize in the NPR Student Podcast Challenge for her podcast titled 'Dyslexia and MEE.' Her podcast chronicles her personal journey of struggling with reading, receiving a dyslexia diagnosis after nearly five years, and her subsequent progress with tutoring. Walsh's podcast was selected from nearly 1,500 submissions across 42 states and the District of Columbia. The podcast includes segments from her tutoring sessions, where she practices sounding out words and receives feedback. Her mother, Emily Johnson, noted a significant turning point this summer when Cora began reading for pleasure, including the 'Hunger Games' series. Cora hopes her podcast will help other students who are navigating similar learning challenges.
