Former NH House Speaker's Nonprofit Under Scrutiny for $274,000 in Casino Funds with No Visible Charitable Work
A month-long investigation by The Concord Monitor has revealed that a nonprofit organization led by former New Hampshire House Speaker George B. Roberts Jr., the Concord Coach Society, has collected over $274,000 in charitable gaming proceeds since 2019 without any apparent public charitable activities. In January 2026, Roberts's group received a $131,000 check from The Nash casino, making it one of the highest-grossing beneficiaries in 2025 with over $166,000. Despite these significant earnings, the Concord Coach Society has no website, social media presence, or documented public events. Members of the Abbot-Downing Historical Society, a separate group dedicated to coach preservation, expressed concern that Roberts's organization might be benefiting from their established reputation. The state's charitable gaming system allows nonprofits to receive funds from casinos, but there is no requirement for them to report how the money is spent, nor are regulators or casinos obligated to follow up on its use.
