U.S. and Europe Strengthen Measures Against Forced Labor in Supply Chains
The United States, Europe, and Britain are intensifying efforts to combat forced labor in global supply chains. The U.S. has proposed new tariffs on imports from 60 economies, accusing them of failing to prevent goods made with forced labor from entering their markets. The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, effective since June 2022, specifically targets goods from China's Xinjiang region. In Europe, the EU's Forced Labour Regulation, set to take effect in December 2027, will ban products made with forced labor. Meanwhile, the UK and other European countries have implemented laws focusing on corporate responsibility and transparency in addressing forced labor.
