ArXiv Implements Stricter Penalties for AI-Generated Research Papers
ArXiv, a prominent open archive for scientific research, is taking significant steps to combat the submission of low-quality papers generated by artificial intelligence. The platform has announced that authors will now be held fully accountable for their submissions, particularly if they contain errors attributed to AI, such as non-existent sources or chatbot-generated content. Thomas Dietterich, chair of the ArXiv computer science section, emphasized that authors found to have submitted such flawed papers will face a one-year ban from the platform. Furthermore, any future submissions from these authors will only be considered if they have been peer-reviewed and accepted by reputable scientific journals. This initiative is not intended to prohibit the use of AI in research but to ensure that authors maintain responsibility for the integrity of their work.
