New Mexico Senators Question USDA's Research Restructuring Plans
New Mexico Senators Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Luján, along with 22 other Democratic senators, are seeking clarification from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regarding its recent restructuring plans. USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins announced a restructuring of the department's Research, Education, and Economics mission area, which includes relocating research projects across the country. The senators expressed concerns that these changes could reduce the USDA's research capacity and lead to disruptions in delivering innovation and economic data to farmers and rural communities. They highlighted past instances where staff relocations led to mass resignations, potentially impacting the department's effectiveness.
