Hawaii Prepares for Storm with Emphasis on Water Conservation
As heavy rains and strong winds approach Hawaii, residents are being urged to prepare for potential power outages that could disrupt water supply systems. According to Hawaii Public Radio, Ernie Lau, Chief Engineer of the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, emphasized the importance of having emergency drinking water on hand. Residents are advised to store a 14-day supply of water, with a recommended one gallon per person per day, using clean containers. The impending storm could lead to power outages, affecting areas that rely on electricity for water pumping. Lau advises that when power is lost, residents should immediately begin conserving water, using only what is necessary. This preparation is crucial to ensure access to clean water during and after the storm.
