Metro Bus Driver Briona Akins Performs CPR on Shot Boy in East Price Hill, Cincinnati
Briona Akins, a Metro bus driver in Cincinnati, Ohio, is being recognized for her quick actions in performing CPR on a young boy who was shot in East Price Hill. While driving her regular route on Warsaw Avenue, Akins observed a chaotic scene with people running and crying. Upon stopping, she discovered a boy lying between the curb and the street with a head injury, quickly realizing he had been shot. Drawing on prior CPR training from a previous job, Akins immediately called 911, turned the boy onto his back, and began chest compressions. She noted a faint heartbeat and the boy's attempts to keep his eyes open during the compressions. Akins, who has been with Metro for less than a year, stated that her primary motivation was to help the boy, reacting without fear despite the dangerous situation. Police are currently investigating the shooting, which occurred on Tuesday evening around 8 p.m. in the 3700 block of Warsaw Avenue.
