Baltimore County Faces Accountability Challenges Amid Inspector General Vacancy
Baltimore County is experiencing a significant gap in its government accountability framework due to the absence of a permanent Inspector General. The position has been vacant since January when former Inspector General Kelly Madigan resigned after a contentious period. The office, which is responsible for investigating fraud, waste, and abuse, has not released any public reports this year. The County Council is now considering legislation to clarify the authority of the Office of the Inspector General to issue reports even without a permanent leader. This move comes as County Executive Kathy Klausmeier has indicated she will not appoint a successor before her term ends in December.
