Kazakhstan Hosts Largest-Ever AI Olympiad, Aims to Become Central Asia's AI Hub
Kazakhstan is hosting the largest edition of the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) from August 2 to 8, 2026, in Astana. This event marks Kazakhstan's debut as the first Central Asian country to host the Olympiad, with over 500 high school students from 106 countries participating. The competition, organized by the Competitive Programming Federation of Kazakhstan under UNESCO patronage, was relocated from Abu Dhabi due to safety and logistical considerations. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of AI in Kazakhstan's development strategy, aiming to create a unified innovative ecosystem. The Olympiad includes a new AI Models Track for research labs and tech companies, and Kazakhstan has paired the event with investments in AI infrastructure.
