Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program Offers $120 Million for Cleveland Redevelopment
The Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program, initiated by Governor Mike DeWine's administration in 2021, is set to release approximately $120 million in grant funding to aid in the cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated properties across Ohio, including Cleveland. This initiative aims to transform abandoned, idled, or underutilized industrial, commercial, and institutional sites that have been affected by hazardous substances or petroleum. The program has already awarded nearly $800 million to support 904 projects in 87 counties, with recent grants benefiting projects like the West Side Market renovation and the former Cleveland Cooperative Stove Co. site. The upcoming round of funding, the largest yet, will open for applications on August 11, 2026, and is part of the Ohio BUILDS Initiative, which focuses on improving quality of life through infrastructure and redevelopment projects.
